Retired Educator with Expired PEL (not lapsed)

Modified on Wed, Feb 7 at 10:18 AM

If you are a retired educator whose PEL has expired (not lapsed), and you would like to make it valid again to become employed in Kane County, please contact the Kane ROE licensure department at: licensure@kaneroe.org. Be sure to include your IEIN number.

The licensure specialist will contact The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) to manually move the PEL’s expiration date out five years for educators who are in retired status and did not renew their PEL before June 30th of the last year of their cycle.

After ISBE updates the educator's PEL expiration date, the educator must log into their ELIS account and register the license. There will be an active registration link in the "Action Center" on the Home page. Click here for a guide. You will not be charged registration fees but must register the license to make it valid for employment.
