I attended college out of the country. Is that acceptable for licensure?

You must have the documents evaluated by a foreign credential evaluator. Here is a list of evaluators that The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) accepts: https://www.isbe.net/Documents/foreign-cred-eval-svcs.pdf. You may choose any company that is on the list to perform an evaluation.

If you are applying for a substitute or paraprofessional license, then the evaluation can be a summary or course-by-course.

If you are applying for any other credential, including a Professional Educator License (PEL), then the evaluation must be course-by-course.

After your documents have been evaluated, request the company send the course-by-course evaluation directly to our office. Click here for a guide on how to do so. When our office receives your documents, they will be uploaded to your ELIS account.
