Modified on Mon, Dec 4, 2023 at 2:25 PM

In an effort to reduce the substitute teacher shortage, The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) is now offering a reimbursement of the application fee to qualifying applicants.

You may qualify to be reimbursed the substitute license application fee and keep the substitute license if you satisfy the following requirements:

  1. Have a short-term substitute license that was issued after July 1, 2017
  2. You have worked at least 10 full school days within one year of your issuance date.
  3. You must apply for the reimbursement within 18 months of your issuance date. (ISBE form 73-02)

Educators will receive a $25 refund if they have worked 10 days on the short-term substitute teaching license.
